What ancient advice can teach us about AI.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere. Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant have become indispensable to millions of users. Tesla Autopilot has the potential to change driving forever. And IBM Watson took a new job providing big data solutions to corporations after its first job was in jeopardy. Those are just the most prominent examples. Helpful applications of AI are being deployed in a broad spectrum of industries, but AI also has the potential to be misused.

The Phoblographer

Culling photos from a big shoot such as a wedding is a process that typically takes hours. For me, the photo cull is a boring task that’s best tackled with Netflix and some snacks. But, can artificial intelligence turn that hours-long process into a few minutes? PhotoRefine A.I. Photo Manager is an app that uses artificial intelligence to ease the bore of the cull. PhotoRefine does a good job of looking for sharpness and avoiding closed eyes. The sharpness tool works well some of the time, but it doesn’t like photos with a lot of bokeh. The manual culling tools allow a good blend between the speed of A.I. and the eye of an actual human. It’s a good app for burst shooters, but photographers who only take a shot or two of the same subject won’t save time.

Our logo.

One of the ‘O’s in Zenfolio will represent the ‘lens’ of the camera, but without resorting to the typical camera design cues we have seen on so many photographic logos. This will create a dynamic, ever-changing aesthetic that captures the energy of photography and takes you on a visual journey.

The ‘lens’ would reflect a mix of graphics, photography, colors and animation techniques when it is rolled into brand launch communications.

Logo guidelines.

  • Zenfolio curated artwork.
  • ‘O’ as ‘floating lens’ in three brand colors.
  • On white background, circles to be multiplied for transparent layered effect.

Logo safe space.

  • The safe space for the logo is a margin of the height of the “Z” around the logo‘O’ as ‘floating lens’ in three brand colors.
  • The margin is measured above and below the letters, ignoring ascenders and descenders in the “f” and “l”

Logo usage.

Logo and tag line.

zenfolio logo with tagline
  • The tag line to sit between ‘f’ and ‘o’.
  • Capitals only when sitting with logo.
  • Font: Nunito Sans Light.
  • Logo safe space still applies.
